How to Start A League
It takes dedication to your community to start a league. They are first formed by putting together a Board of Directors. These individuals should be dedicated to community and kids first. Then comes baseball. Not everyone needs to be a baseball whiz. As an example, the “Treasurer” of the Board should be good with keeping financial records… not much baseball in that, just good accounting. You do need a president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, player agent, and Umpire-in-Chief” at a minimum. It’s also nice to have coaching coordinators, safety agents, fund raisers, and more on your board. You should always have people though that are dedicated to the community.
If you have 50 players, you can make a good starting league. Then look at how many kids in each division. You want at least 10 players on a team. And don’t worry if you don’t have alot of teams… your neighboring leagues are good for getting more games for your players. Leagues can play each other!
Your District Administrator is there to help guide your formation and operation of your league. They can help answer any questions, find resources, and get you going. The phone number for the District 13 DA is 509-995-4200… call or text at any time!
Little League has training programs for the entire league from Team Parent to President, and Coaches to Umpires. Little League’s ethos is to make their leagues successful and to help you run a better baseball program.
